How Will You Serve?

While the Lions Club motto is “We Serve,” we can‟t accomplish that goal in a broader sense until we figure out how to put it in action for ourselves.  So how will YOU serve the Tri-Village Lions this year?
Within the next few weeks, the officers will be meeting to discuss committee assignments for this year (2010-2011).  We hope that every member of the club will come forward and volunteer for AT LEAST one committee, and that many of you will find several ways to give of your time and talents to help the TVL grow, prosper, and fulfill our role in serving the Tri-Village community.
First on our list of important assignments is to identify folks who are willing to help out this year and LEARN about our major fundraisers.  Our distinguished and accomplished club members, who have served so long and so admirably in some key roles, need to know that there is someone available who COULD take over if needed.  Specifically, we are looking for folks who would be interested in learning about the planning and preparation of: the Grandview Ox Roast/Ice Cream Social, the White Cane Sale, the Rose Sale, and the Pancake Breakfast.
There are some committees that focus more specifically on our internal activities that might be of interest. We are seeking volunteers for:
  • Membership Committee – Needless to say, this is a vital committee in re-energizing the Tri-Village Lions. We need fresh blood and new eyes!
  • Calling Committee – folks on this committee each call a list of Tri-Village members to remind them of upcoming meetings/events
  • Program Committee – this committee identifies and arranges for speakers for our regular meetings
  • Publicity – we need some folks who are “media savvy” and have connections in the community (or are willing to develop them!) to get TVL more publicity/visibility for both our club functions and our fundraisers
  • Get Well Committee – tracks the health and well-being of our members and makes sure that we send along our best wishes, as a club, to anyone who is ailing
  • Website Committee – get involved in helping us build an award-winning website to match our award winning newsletter; contribute ideas for content, format, and organization
  • Visitation – be part of the TVL contingent that visits other Lions Clubs in District 13-F, to see and be seen by other Lions.
Other committees deal with the implementation of some of our important service projects:
  • Food Pantry Committee – help to periodically collect needed bags of groceries at Club meetings and deliver to the Food Pantry
  • Sight Conservation – this committee helps to collect eyeglasses from our various drop boxes around the community and deliver them to OSU School of Optometry for processing; also responsible for the Gift of Sight program, providing coupons to cover the cost of eye exams for those in need
  • Scholarship Committee – review applications for scholarships from graduating Seniors at GHHS and UAHS and identify worthy recipients.
Want to get involved in planning for some fun activities? We have choices for you there, as well:
  • Christmas Party – help find a place, choose the food, identify the entertainment, and assure a good time is had by all!
  • Valentine’s Party – DITTO (above)!
  • Parades – Make sure all arrangements are in place for any active participation in the Grandview and UA parades
Like to be creative and think fast?  We are looking to begin a new committee this year – a “Special Projects” Committee that will take on unexpected activities that crop up during the year, or directed assignments from the Board to explore potential new ventures.
SO… HOW WILL YOU SERVE??

Please look over the information above and take action – AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  Don’t look at the newsletter and say, “Oh… I’ll figure out what I want to do and call later.” CALL (or email)  NOW. Go with your first responses.  Pick a few things that sound interesting and offer your help.  You can contact any of these officers to let them know how you plan to contribute to this year‟s Tri-Village Lions:
