Guest Speaker Announced:

John D. Rockefeller

(as portrayed by Damian Bowerman, OSU Department of Theatre)

“Get money; get it honestly; and then give it wisely.”

Deeply influenced by his Baptist religion, Rockefeller recorded this motto in his first ledger book and kept it throughout his life. During this presentation, John D. Rockefeller will share personal anecdotes and seek validation for his business practices and life decisions. The program centers on his corporate and philanthropic philosophies.

Rockefeller believed it was better to be silent than to dignify a personal attack with a response, though his family felt he should speak out. He was a complex man who lived in a complex time. In this program, Rockefeller finally defends himself against his critics and explores his life–from the creation of Standard Oil to his great love of…golf!

What an appropriate presentation to the right audience (Lions focused on community service and philanthropy) in the right setting (the beautiful OSU Golf Club)!!!

Comments

  1. Rev. Kenneth L. Smith says:

Congratulations on reaching the big 60! While I am unable to attend your celebration, I appreciate your kind invitation. I have many pleasant memories of Tri-Village Lions serving in the 60′s and 70′s as Treasurer, Secretary and President. My wife Portia and I have only recently returned to Ohio settling in Cleveland Heights after serving over 20 years in New England United Methodist churches and as a hospital chaplain. It is our love of the arts that has brought us home to this area where we both grew up. May God bless you as you serve those who need you!
