SATURDAY OF SERVICE A SUCCESS!
Our latest service project was on Saturday, May 14th. Lion Anna Reed helped coordinate volunteers from our club to help senior residents in Grandview and Upper Arlington with some yard work and a few household chores. A total of seven homes were spruced up for the season and several of our members got to enjoy the sunshine of the great outdoors and from the smiling faces of residents. Another round will be scheduled for fall, so plan to help.

OFFICERS INSTALLATION & AWARDS BANQUET
The closing banquet was an opportunity to reward past service, give credit for accomplishments, and reaffirm commitments. IPDG Barry Brandt was our guest and officiate as new officers and Board members were installed. Congratulations to all and thanks to those leaving Board service at this time. Meanwhile, the following awards were made:
To Shirley Brooks-Jones – congratulations on being named as one of two Distinguished OSU Alumni for the year.
To Past President Lion Steve Yanega – an Ohio Lions hat; time to retire that silly hat with the blue “M”.
To Lion Jeff Brantner – recognition of his recent award as Ohio State Lion of the Year, along with a little surprise… leftover White Cane Sale money from 2008, a la Rick Rocci!
To Lion Al Sulser – an Ohio Lions hat to wear on the golf course to protect his head, since so much important TVL information is contained therein!!!
To Vice Presidents Ralph Kramer, Chuck Helge, and Darin Spiegel – the first ever Pay-It-Forward awards for dedicated service, they have and will perform, July, 2010 – June 2014.
To Lion Jane Jarrow – President’s Appreciation Award for her leadership during the year just ending.
To Lion Darin Spiegel, Webmaster Extraordinaire – for creating an amazing website that makes us the envy of District 13-F (and beyond!).
To Lion Jeff Davis – Lion of the Decade (he has already been named Lion of the Year twice – the third time is the charm!)

WHO DOESN’T LOVE A PARADE
The Grandview Memorial Day Parade provided us with a beautiful day to show our colors. Many of our members helped to decorate a float for the parade while others got to walk the parade route handing out bouncy balls and candy to the spectators. Thank you to Lion Tom Dolbow who provided our “float,” Lion Jay Gray who provided us with two Pilot Dogs and “students” and all that helped make this project a success!

TAIL TWISTER PICNIC
A large (and hungry!) group of Lions and guests met at Thompson Park on June 8 for our annual end-of-the-year Tailtwister Picnic. Lion Tom Dolbow once again provided the steaks and was in “rare” form as he took his place behind the grill (or “medium” or “well”, depending on your preference!). The rest of us brought salad, side dishes, and desserts, adding up to quite a feast! A rousing round of (Lions) Family Feud featured fierce competition between the White Family (Pearly, Snow, Ivory, Lily, and Off) against the Brown Family (Cleveland, Muddy, Coco, Ginger and Charlie ). There were a lot of red shirts – and a lot of red faces!!! It’s hard to explain, but a good time was had by all.

GUEST SPEAKERS
Our May 12th meeting featured our guest speaker Mike Smith from the Grandview Heights Fire Department Emergency Medical Services. Mike gave us an inside look at the capabilities of a state-of-the-art medical services team and answered many questions from our group on the day-to-day operations. Mike was also one of the paramedics responding to the call for help from our own Lion Ralph Antolino. Thanks to Mike and his team, Lion Ralph is still roaring. Thanks Mike!

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
We were also pleased to have Michael Jeffers and his family join us for the May 12th meeting. Michael is our scholarship winner from Upper Arlington High School and will be attending Kenyon College in the fall. Best wishes for a bright future Michael.
