Parades and Pancakes!

PARADE ROUT(ES)!

Thanks to our own, unstoppable parade booster, Lion Chuck Rout, the Tri-Village Lions made a triumphant return to the Upper Arlington 4th of July Parade after several years’ absence. Lion Chuck and his team (Lion Hoot Evers, Lion Tom Dolbow, Lion Al Sulser) upgraded the float decorations from our most recent outing at the Grandview Memorial Day Parade. Lion Jane Shoaf and Dobie rode the float, waving to the assembled watchers. OK – Dobby didn’t wave much but it was hot out there. Just ask 1st VP Chuck Rout, who valiantly agreed to don the Danny the Lion suit, while President Ralph Kramer and 2nd VP Darin Spiegel went along for the ride. Several more Tri-Village Lions turned out to cheer them on, watching from their front row seats at PP Jane Jarrow’s place. Same time, next year?!?

AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER – OUR 2011 PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Our 2011 Pancake Breakfast was a huge success. We made lots of money for our Project Fund (the final numbers are still out, but it looks as though our profits will be higher than last year’s – and that was the most profitable outing we had to date!). Just as important, we had fantastic support and participation by the Tri-Village Lions. In addition to all the frenzied activity that went into the publicity, planning and preparation, 26 Tri-Village Lions turned up to man the grill, stir the batter, scramble those eggs, serve the breakfast, bus the tables, and work the crowd! Another four Lions joined us for breakfast that morning with their families, while another 8 contributed money or sold tickets to the event. That’s about 90% of our active membership.

The tremendous response and effort didn’t end with the Tri-Village Lions. Several members of the TVL Branch Club sold tickets at a Grandview Farmer’s Market the week before and/or turned out for breakfast and to staff their raffle table at the Breakfast. The Tri-Village Noon Lions sold $240 worth of tickets for us, including a number they used themselves, as they were well represented that morning. They weren’t alone, either, as Lions from half a dozen clubs in District 13-F turned out in support.

Only the Tri-Village Noon Lions were brave enough to offer up a team of pancake eaters in a showdown with the “home team”. Our thanks to Diane and Jim Dilley, who were good sports enough to try. They couldn’t compete with the indomitable duo representing the Tri-Village Lions, though. Lion Chuck Helge and designated-eater James Davis (son of Lion Jeff Davis) were triumphant. Thanks, also, to Bexley Lion Dan Gray, who served as our impartial judge. A good time was had by all and we will certainly look for an exciting rematch next year!
